A deciduous, large, spreading shrub or small tree, about 6-7m tall, with rich green leaves, paler beneath, composed of 3 leaflets, rusty-red when young, on red stalks, with rich red autumn colour. Inconspicuous greenish-yellow flowers in spring may be followed by winged, purple-brown fruits
