About this plant

'Murasaki-kiyohime' is a spreading, dwarf shrub to 1.2m tall and 1.5m wide. Green-yellow leaves emerge in spring, tipped and edged with red, maturing to a glossy, dark green colour again with purple-red margins. Autumn leaf colours include yellow, orange and bronze. Small reddish-purple flowers in spring are followed by red, winged fruits

Cultivation

Grow in any moisture-retentive, well-drained soil in a sheltered position. Leaf colour is best in partial shade, although full sun can be tolerated if soil is reliably moist. Leaf scorch can be caused by lack of soil moisture or excessive exposure. Suits container cultivation but attention to watering is needed in dry spells during the growing season.
