D. uniflorum is a clump-forming, upright, rhizomatous perennial, to 60cm tall, with dark green elliptic to oval leaves. In spring, one to three narrowly-bell-shaped, pale yellow flowers are held on arching stems and are followed in autumn by blue-black berries
