About this plant

A clump-forming hybrid perennial (G. phaeum × G. reflexum), to 45cm tall, with lobed, mid-green, basal leaves, often marked brown at base of the lobes. Loose clusters of saucer-shaped, reddish-purple flowers, with white and violet zones at the base of the reflexed petals, are borne in late spring and early summer

Cultivation

Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in sun or part shade but most soils (unless waterlogged) are tolerated

Pruning

Cut flowered stems and old leaves to the base to encourage new foliage and flowers

Propagation

Propagate by division in spring or basal cuttings in early or mid-spring and root with bottom heat. Propagate by seed in containers outdoors as soon as ripe or in spring
