Q. frainetto is a fast-growing, spreading, deciduous tree, eventually reaching 30m. The dark green leaves are up to 20cm long, with numerous rounded lobes, and turn yellow-brown in autumn. The greenish flowers are inconspicuous catkins, followed by small clusters of acorns about 2cm long, in hairy cups
