Rhododendron glischrum subsp. rude

An evergreen shrub or small tree, with an upright habit, and narrowly ovate green leaves up to 30cm long. Leaves and young shoots are covered with small fine hairs. Produces clusters of 10-14 small, bell-shaped flowers in shades of pink and red, with darker lines and often with purple flecks on the upper petals, from mid- to late spring. This species can grow up to 8m high, though it rarely reaches this height in the UK
