A deciduous azalea to about 1.2m high, with an upright habit, and narrowly elliptic, glossy green leaves that turn orange and red in autumn. Produces clusters of 18-20 scented pink flowers, with white streaks along the midrib and a yellow blotch on the top petals, in midsummer

Cultivation

Grow in moist but well-drained, humus rich, acidic soil, in partial or dappled shade. Choose a site away from frost pockets and sheltered from strong winds. Mulch annually, ideally with leaf mould. See rhododendron cultivation for more detailed advice
