wrinkled-skin rhododendron

An evergreen shrub up to about 3.5m high, with broadly elliptic dark green leaves with deeply impressed veins giving a textured appearance. Leaves have a reddish-brown felting on the undersides, and young shoots are covered with a woolly brown coating. Produces dense clusters of 10 bell-shaped flowers, pale pink or sometimes white and with dark red speckles on the upper petals, in mid to late spring
