Thrives as a shrub in a border in full sun in rich, fertile, moist, well-drained soil. Avoid planting in sites that have previously been used for growing roses. Add mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help the plant establish quicker.

Prune in late winter, late February to March. Cut back disproportionately long stems in line with the rest of the plant, cutting back lightly in the first year and more vigorously in later years, previous seasons growth to above an outward-facing bud about 5-10cm from the main stem, thinning out shoots as necessary and starting with diseased and damaged stems.

Propagate by budding or hardwood cuttings
